There is a captivating history to the Cambodia gambling dens that reside just across the dividing line from next door Thailand, where casino betting is not allowed. Eight gambling halls are anchored in a relatively small space in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia casinos is in a perfect spot, a three to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The amazing income acquired from the gambling dens ranges from $7.5 million to more than 12.5 million, and there are a number of controls constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; although, financing sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 09:00 to 1700, and even though visas are for all intents and purposes necessary to pass, there are means around this, as is true of most border crossings.

The original Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only 1 gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored boat casino, contains one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and 60 gaming tables. The Naga gambling den never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of vingt-et-un, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon opened. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machine games and five table games at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slots and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety six table games, including 87 punto banco (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and sixty six of the familiar gaming tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, again in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-around resort and hotel complex that features many amenities in addition to the gambling hall, which has ten thousand sq.ft. of 130 slot machines and eighty eight gaming tables.
