There is a fascinating history to the Cambodia gambling dens that lie just across the border from neighboring Thailand, in which casino wagering is banned. Eight casinos are situated in a relatively small location in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling halls is in an excellent location, a 3 to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai laborers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The amazing capital accrued from the gambling dens ranges from $7.5 million to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of limitations requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; although, funding sources are ambiguous. The borders are formally open from 9:00 a.m. to 17:00, and though visas are apparently required to cross, there are means around this, as is real of most borders.

The original Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving just one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored boat gambling den, features 150 slots and sixty table games. The Naga gambling hall never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, four tables of vingt-et-un, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long opened. A total of 150 slot machines and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred slot machines and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slots and ninety six gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machines and sixty six of the familiar tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a comprehensive resort and hotel compound that highlights numerous luxuries on top of the casino, which has ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty one armed bandits and 88 tables.
